Dr. Laurence Hewick



Dr. Hewick is President of Hewick Research Inc., an international new venture commercialization firm who perform work on projects for government, academe and the private sector. Hewick Research Inc. is a full line commercialization firm offering business incubation services, investment readiness services, risk capital, contracted sales and international market expansion services.


Dr. Hewick is also Director of Incubation for the Hamilton Incubator of Technology, in Canada, where he is responsible for the mentoring of 22 technology firms at various stages of development.


Within the community, Laurence is very active as a Director of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce and President of the Golden Horseshoe Venture Forum. He is also Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce Science & Technology Committee and Mohawk College Small Business Advisory Committee and Co-founder of the International Development Institute of Mohawk College.


In the past Dr. Hewick taught New Venture Creation and Entrepreneurship, for 15 years, at the university undergraduate and MBA level. Currently he has a “visiting professorship” in Entrepreneurship at Petru Maior University in Romania and Andina University in Bolivia.  Laurence has spoken at international economic development and business incubation conferences in Bolivia, Croatia, China, Hungary, Indonesia, Malaysia, Moldova, Serbia and the Ukraine.


Laurence holds a Ph.D. from Florida State University, A M.Sc. from the University of Guelph and an honors B.B.A. from Wilfrid University. He has also completed the Canadian Securities Course and worked as a securities broker and analyst.


In his personal life Laurence is an avid outdoorsman and has many interests including his farm in north Burlington, wine and physical fitness.
